According to sources, when tired routine pathfinder Feroz Khan unfolding to create Gandhi, My Father based on Harilals life, Aamir was the best to canter at the opportunity. He is said to have approached Khan with the offer of producing and directing the movie and also playing the lead role. However, Aamir was unaware that Yashraj Films had already approached Feroz with the offer of producing the film.

Says a source, Aamir was impressed in by the agitative reputation of the story. He was attentive by Harilals opinion and the shades that it has. He not uncommon wanted to rope Harilal, but also wanted to produce and possibly direct the movie!

The origin adds, Aamir loved the phenomenon that the script has a classic fable where both the parties (Gandhi and Harilal) are right in their keep way. If Gandhi is empirical as an idealist, Harilal rarely has a stalwart emotional point in his craving for love and affection of his father which he didnt get.

After the Yashraj Films haste didnt game out, Anil Kapoor unfaltering to earn the film with Feroz, himself, steering it. However if sources are to be believed, Aamir is reposing ruing his loss. The threshold says, Though Aamir gave up the idea of making the film, he still regrets not being able to play the role.
