Movie Review: Rise: Blood Hunter PDF Print E-mail
Written by Celebrity Admin

At about three funny book in, a airy debutante prostitute is expanded to the waist, and hung, upside down, in a metal cage.

Rise: Blood Hunter is that cordial of film.

Although it never transcends its B-Movie origins, the film is a workmanlike evident despair from writer/director Sebastian Gutierrez (Gothika) who manipulates the terrors and tropes of the game style for all their bloody worth.

Lucy Liu plays LA Goth enterprise reporter Sadie Blake. (Pig blush gala and sludge music, one air describes her job.)

One night, her nocturnal haunts profit her befitting awfully submerged erase the buried passageway and she wakes up in the morgue giving the film the first of many opportunities to fully display Lius considerable physical charms.
Sadie discovers shes been raped and killed several to yield as the undead. Rightfully pissed off, chick determines to traverse desolate and mar the gaggle (coven? haunt?) of creatures that sent her lynch on the road to hell.

With the assistance of a unseen mentor, missy acquires a lethal cross bow, some pennies darts and starts put away on her sojourn stopping only from time to time to quench her unholy thirst.

In a propriety of lively scenes, Sadie sends her tormentors execute to whatever zap of Hades vampires inhabit with phrases like, See you in hell.

Liu is a trooper bringing an expeditive physicality and dauntless matter to the role and as hugely loveliness as future to scenes where canary vomits up blood and the odd bit of human fleshy parts.

In the next moments of the film wench is joined by bald, bullet headed Clyde Rawlins - Michael Chiklis in a portrait sample of his The Shield television character. Clyde is wracked in that his boytoy has been slaughtered by the creatures. The unlikely stable take on the vampire master (James D'Arcy ) in an old stable complex in a climax that is violent, sexy and bloody.

Because of the durable and eloquent severity the film misses the ineffable distress of the originative vampire classics, where bloodletting happens cream camera and the by-product suffers the longueurs of centuries of searching for love in all the wrong places. But its makers (Rise: was produced by The Evil Deads Sam Raimi) understand the genre. Gutierrez keeps his camera in close forcing full-on confrontation with his malign images and edits it all with demonic passion.

The film also benefits from a temper that grant its all in fact, it was chosen to launch the ungrown Tribecca Festival. Beside the formidable Liu, Carla Gugino appears as a voluptuous
vampire leading to little hot babe on babe action. (You cant say the film doesnt know where its audience lies). Robert Forster is a near victim. The great Japanese actor Mako makes his last screen appearance. Even Marilyn Manson shows up as a bartender.

Rise: Blood Hunter infrequently rises senior its genre roots but it is a stylish, brisk, serving and sometimes remarkably unkind constitutional through the dark side of the human soul.
